Lackawanna Softball Drops 2 Straight to Brookdale CC

(Middletown, NJ) – The Lackawanna Softball team took to the road on Sunday to play their last games of the 2019 regular season. A double-header against Brookdale Community College saw the Falcons lose game one 3-1 and fall in game two 7-5.   Their final regular season record stands at 32-19 (7-3).

Game 1 saw minimal scoring for the Falcons. Brookdale scored in the bottom of the first on an error by Mia Pawelski in left field. Both taeams didn't score another run until the bottom of the 5th when Brookdale added 2 more runs on a pair of ground balls. Jordan Skoff scored for the Falcons in the top of the 6th on an error by the 3rd baseman. Brookdale held on to win 3-1. The losing pitcher was Amanda Mowry. She pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 earned run.

Game 2 saw a similar start as Brookdale scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning. Lackawanna put a stop to any more similarities from game 1 in the top of the 2nd. The Falcons scored 3 runs as Amanda Mowry hit an RBI line drive to center, Courtney Hoffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the 2nd run, and Alexandria Thoman hit a sac-fly to left field to score the 3rd run. Brookdale answered back in the bottom of the 3rd with 2 runs to make the game 3-3. Brookdale added another run off of a double to center in the bottom of the 4th. Not to be outdone, the Falcons scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th as Mia Pawelski hit an RBI single to right and Amanda Mowry hit an RBI single to the shortstop. Things went sideways for Lackawanna in the bottom of the 6th. Brookdale hung 3 runs on the Falcons to retake the lead and win 7-5. The losing pitcher was Marlena Pegula. She pitched 1 inning, giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run.
