(Myrtle Beach, SC) – Lackawanna Softball played a double-header against USC Sumter on Friday afternoon at the Cal Ripken Experience. The Lady Falcons took game one 2-0 and won game two 6-2. The Lady Falcons improved their record to 7-5.
A pitching duel was the story of game one as both teams were scoreless through the first 7 innings. Marlena Pegula stood on the mound for Lackawanna and threw 8 straight innings without giving up a run. Pegula had a lot of help from her fielder's, she as only struck out 2 batters. Headed into extra innings, Mia Pawelski cracked a double to center field scoring the game's first run. The Lady Falcons added an insurance run two batters later as Hayley Coale singled on a line drive to center field. She brought Pawelski in from second to record the late RBI. Lady Falcons win 2-0.
Marlena Pegula: 8.0 IP, 7 H, 0 ER (Pegula moves to 2-2 on the year)
Lackawanna swung the bats well in game 2 as they amassed 13 hits. Lauryn Rodriguez stepped in to bat with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 2nd. Rodriguez grounded to left field scoring both runs which gave Lackawanna a 3-1 advantage. Rodriguez came through again for Lackawanna in the bottom of the 4th, doubling to left field and bringing Lexi Bruno home from 2nd. Amanda Mowry pitched 7 complete innings and struck out 3 batters for the win. Lackawanna won 6-2.

The Lady Falcons will finish their tour of the Cal Ripken Experience tomorrow (March 9th) as they play three final games. They will take on Monroe College at 11:00am and play a double-header against John Wood CC starting at 1:00pm.
