(Myrtle Beach, SC) – Lackawanna Softball opened their season at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Lady Falcons played two games Sunday afternoon, losing to Olney Central College 8-4 and losing to USC Sumter 3-2.
The Lady Falcons got off to a quick start during their season opener, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Lackawanna scored their runs via passed ball, hit by a pitch advancing runners and Gabrielle Vuocolo stealing home. Lackawanna held their lead to 4-2 going into the top of the 4th. From there Olney light up the scoreboard as they put up 6 runs against Lackawanna. That would conclude the scoring for both teams, Olney won 8-4.
Vanessa Wolf: 1-2, 1 Double 2 RBI
Game 2 was a closer affair against USC Sumter. The first inning saw Courtney Hoffman start the game with a leadoff single. A groundball would advance Hoffman and then a single from Mia Pawelski would drive in the run. USC Sumter answered back scoring 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st. Lackawanna's only other run came in the top of the 3rd, as Pawelski cracked a double to drive Hoffman home for a second time. The Lady Falcons gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the 5th. A fielding error by the third baseman Alexandria Thoman gave the Fire Ants a chance to score. USC Sumter won 3-2.
