Scranton, PA – Thursday night, the Lackawanna College Men's Basketball team finished their 2017/2018 regular season with an 89-83 win over Cecil College. The Falcons were led by Stevan Rodriguez, who scored a team best 27 points; three of which came from the foul line in the closing minute of play to help seal the victory.
In addition to Rodriguez, Jonathan Williams and Jovantay Pipkin both made significant contributions to the victory. Williams recorded a double-double of 15 points and a team high 10 rebounds. Pipkin scored 9 points and dished out 10 assists. His most important points coming in the last minute of play, when a two-point field goal gave Lackawanna a 4-point lead. He followed up that score by forcing a jump ball which stopped Cecil's momentum and gave possession of the ball back to Lackawanna.
With the victory, the Falcons ended the season with an overall win/loss record of 24-4; a Region XIX Division II best record of 15-1; a 10th place rank in the most recent NJCAA Division II poll and the number one seed in next week's Region XIX DII Men's Tournament.
In the Region Tourney, Lackawanna will play next Friday when they host that tournament's number four seed. The game with be the first of two semi-finals that will be played at the Lackawanna College Student Union and will tip-off at 5:00 PM.
