(Frederick, MD) – The Lackawanna Falcons claimed the NJCAA Northeast District Championship as they defeated Frederick CC 14-8 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams split the first two games of this best of 3 series as Lackawanna won game one 7-0 and Frederick CC won game two 19-5. The finale saw the Falcons explode on offense as Thylar Summarell hit 2 homeruns. Lackawanna has earned themselves a spot in the upcoming NJCAA DII World Series. The final tournament will be held in Enid, Oklahoma from May 25th through June 1st. Matchups, times, and dates will be announced soon.
Lackawanna was held scoreless in the first 3 innings as Frederick CC led 1-0. The Falcons then had an explosion of offense happen in the top of the 4th inning. Thylar Summarell hit a 2-run homerun that was launched into orbit. Keeping things exciting in the 4th, Ryan Cole followed up Summarell's homerun with a 3-run homer of his own to make the game 8-1. When it was all said and done, the Falcons hung 10 runs in the 4th inning alone.
Frederick CC couldn't get anything started until the bottom of the 6th but they made Lackawanna sweat it out. Frederick CC put up 6 runs to bring the game to within 3 runs. Leading 10-7, the Falcons needed insurance runs and it would be Thylar Summarell that answered the call again. Summarell hit a homerun and the Falcons pushed across 4 runs in the top of the 8th. Frederick CC scored 1 more run in the bottom of the 8th but it wouldn't be enough to come back. Lackawanna College won the 2019 NJCAA Northeast District Championship 14-8. The winning pitcher was Matt Clarke and the 9 out save went to Owen Kiess.
Ryan Cole was named 2019 Northeast District MVP for his performance in the series. Cole went 3-4 with 4 RBI's in Lackawanna's 7-0 game 1 victory and he batted 3-4 on Saturday, which included a 3-run homerun, to help the Falcons clinch the series in game 3.

The Falcons are heading the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. The tournament will be held from May 25th through June 1st.
