2010 Volleyball Summary

Lackawanna College's 2010 Volleyball team proved to be the most successful group since the team that won the 2006 Region XIX Division II Championship. Under the leadership of head coach, Chris Weber, the Lady Falcons turned a winless 2009 campaign into to a 2010 regular season where they won 9 and loss 9. Unfortunately, Lackawanna fell to County College of Morris 3 to 1 in the semi-finals of the Region XIX Tournament.

Ginely Ortiz was named the team's MVP. Ortiz recorded 166 Kills during the season with a hitting efficiency average of 41.77%. She also registered 36 aces, 81 digs, 55 assists and 56 blocks. Her hitting efficiency average ranked her 23rd in the nation and 2nd in Region XIX. The only Region XIX player with a better hitting efficiency was teammate Cheyenne Dudley.

Cheyenne Dudley received recognition for her play during the 2010 campaign by being selected to the Region XIX Division II Volleyball Team. With a 53% average in hitting efficiency, Dudley was 4th in the NJCAA national rankings, and 1st in Region XIX in that statistic.  She also ranked 2nd in the Region in kills per set with 3.33, and 23rd nationally in that statistical category.

Finally, it should be noted that Stephanie Sarago also had a significant role in the Falcons' 2010 turnabout. Sarago, a transfer sophomore, led Region XIX in aces per set with 0.97. She was ranked 3rd in the final NJCAA statistics for that category. Teammate, Shannon Nolan, with 0.70 aces per set was 22nd on that same national listing.
