Krajkovich Honored with Sterling B. Seeley Award

The Lackawanna College Athletic Department held its annual spring banquet on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. The department utilizes this dinner to honor the Most Valuable Players from each of its winter and spring sports programs, and players, who have received Region XIX and NJCAA recognition. The highlight of the evening is the presentation of the annual awards honoring the academic and sportsmanship accomplishments its student-athletes

This year's Most Valuable Player awards were presented to:

Men's Basketball – Shedrick Haynes
Women's Basketball – Nashira Turner
Softball – Danielle Johnson and Ashley Smith
Baseball – Eric Hink
Golf – Dakota Brown
Cheerleading – Mindy Hein

The following athletes were honored as All Region players:

Women's Basketball – Nashira Turner – First Team All Region
Men's Basketball – Shedrick Haynes – First Team All Region
Men's Basketball – Kevin Jones – Second Team All Region
Golf – Dakota Brown – All Region
Golf – Kevin MacDonald – All Region
Golf – Matthew Lyons – All Region
Golf – Lucas Olivas – All Region

NJCAA All Americans All American Certificates were bestowed upon:

Women's Basketball - Nashira Turner – First Team All American
Men's Basketball – Shedrick Haynes – Second Team All American

There were six Athletic Department Awards given to honor its athlete's academic and sportsmanship accomplishments. Those awards were:

The Board of Trustees Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Award: This award is new to the awards presentation. It will to be given annually to a returning freshman who has demonstrated educational excellence while participating in sports. The individual selected to receive this award will have achieved the highest grade point average of all freshmen student/athletes. The recipient of this award will also receive a scholarship to be applied toward student's sophomore academic expenses at Lackawanna College.  The inaugural award was presented to Abigail Rodway (Women's Soccer and Basketball)

Academic Award: The academic awards are given annually to the outstanding male and female student-athletes who have demonstrated educational excellence while participating in sports. The award is presented to those students who have achieved the highest cumulative averages among participants during their two years at Lackawanna College. This year, Jon Wilson (Baseball) received the male academic award, while Nicole Povilitis (Cheerleading) was the female recipient.

Margaret “Peg” Tobin Sportsmanship Award: The Margaret “Peg” Tobin Sportsmanship Award is annually awarded to the male and female student-athletes who have excelled on and off the field. It recognizes persons who are fair, generous and gracious in victory or defeat and whose contributions to the team are varied and vital. This year's awards were bestowed upon Angelea Lockard (Women's Basketball) and Wallace Jamison (Football).

The Sterling B. Seeley Award – The Seeley Award is given annually to an individual who demonstrates all-around abilities as a student and an athlete as well as an active involvement in the community. It is named in honor of Sterling B. Seeley, who was an essential part of the administration of this college for over forty-five years. He was the person responsible for the introduction of many of Lackawanna College's athletic programs and for making those programs a vital segment of the college. The Sterling B. Seeley award is the highlight of the athletic banquet and the summation of all that Lackawanna College wants its sports programs to embody. The student/athlete honored with this prestigious award was Shannon Krajkovich (Women's Soccer)
