Lackawanna Softball Clinches Spot in the Region XIX Playoffs

(Dover, DE) – The Lackawanna Softball team took to the road for a double-header on Tuesday afternoon to play against Delaware Technical CC. Lackawanna won game one 6-3 and won game two 6-1. Lackawanna Softball guaranteed themselves an above .500 record this season and they have clinched a spot in the Region XIX playoffs. Their current record is 30-17 (5-3).

The Falcons took a quick lead in the top of the first of game one. Colleen Cwalina single on a fly ball to the shortstop which scored Amanda Mowry. Delaware Tech answered back with a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the first. Lackawanna wouldn't score again until the 5th inning. Both Alexandria Thoman and Colleen Cwalina hit back to back RBI singles to left field. Lackawanna added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th as Colleen Cwalina smashed a solo homer to center field and Gabrielle Vuocolo hit an RBI single to center. After Lexi Bruno drew a walk, Lauryn Rodriguez singled on an RBI line drive to center to make the score 6-3. After only allowing Delaware Tech to score in the 1st inning, Lackawanna pitched 6 straight shut-out innings to win 6-3. The winning pitcher was Amanda Mowry. She pitched 7 innings and gave up 7 hits and 3 earned runs.

The Falcons scored consistently in game two as they jumped out to a 5-run lead by the 3rd inning. Jordan Skoff knocked home the first run as she hit a fly ball to center field in the 1st inning.  The 2nd inning saw Lexis Chapman ground out to the shortstop but she advanced Vanessa Wolf home from 3rd. On the very next at-bat, Alexandria Thoman hit an RBI line drive to center to make the score 3-0. Vanessa Wolf hit an RBI line drive of her own in the top of the 3rd. Lauryn Rodriguez followed up with a grounder to short to claim a base hit and another run. Mia Pawelski homered in the top of the 5th to make the score 6-0. Delaware Tech avoided the shutout, they hit a sac-fly to center to score their only run in the 6th inning. The Falcons won 6-1. The winning pitcher was Mia Pawelski. She pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 earned run. She also threw 8 strikeouts.
