Lackawanna Softball Splits Series with Lehigh Carbon CC

(Scranton, PA) – The Lady Falcons softball team played a double-header against Lehigh Carbon CC on Tuesday afternoon. Lackawanna won the first game 14-4 and lost the second game 4-2. Their record now stands at 27-16.

The long ball was a major factor in game one for Lackawanna. The first score for the Lady Falcons came in the bottom of the first on an Alexandria Thoman 2-run homer. Two innings later Colleen Cwalina cracked a deep 2-run homerun to right field. In the bottom of the 4th, Lauryn Rodriguez hit home a run on an error and Amanda Mowry drove in a run on a sac-fly. Lehigh Carbon would keep it close as they scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th to make it 6-4 Lackawanna. The Lady Falcons scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th as Gabrielle Vuocolo hit an RBI line drive, Lexi Bruno hit an RBI single, Lauryn Rodriguez homered a 2-run shot to right field. Lackawanna would finish off Lehigh Carbon with the 8-run rule in the bottom of the 6th; Mia Pawelski hit a 3-run walk-off homer to end the game. Lackawanna won 14-4 in 6 innings. The winning pitcher was Mia Pawelski. She pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs. She also threw 6 strikeouts.

Lackawanna struggled to put runs on the board in game two. In the bottom of the 1st, Jordan Skoff drew a walk with the bases loaded and Gabrielle Vuocolo hit a single to left field to score the Lady Falcons only runs of the game. Lehigh Carbon scored 2 runs in the top 4th on a line drive. They would put up 2 more runs late to defeat Lackawanna 4-2. The losing pitcher was Amanda Mowry. She pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 earned run.
