Scranton, PA – The Lackawanna College baseball team lost to County College of Morris in both games of its Region XIX Division II doubleheader. The Falcons lost to Morris in the opener by a 7-5 score and again in the nightcap by a 7-2 tally.
In game one, Lackawanna entered the bottom half of the seventh inning trailing 7-0, only to rally for five runs and see the final out made with the bases loaded. During that inning, the Falcons scored on consecutive RBI doubles by Carlos Gomez and Dustin Wilcox; Charlie Hessil followed with a two homer; and, Shane Rivenburgh added another RBI double. Hessil was the only Falcon to have a multi-hit game. Along with his homer, he had a base hit in the third in his three plate appearances. Max Frederick suffered the loss. Nonetheless, the score is not indicative as to how well he pitched. Morris's seven runs were charged to Frederick, but only one of those runs were earned. He threw five and two / thirds innings, giving up only four hits, while striking out six.
In game two, the Falcons were held to five hits, three singles by Connor Perry, Zach Lopatka and Rivenburgh and two doubles by D'Quan Matthews and Wady Tactuk. Lopatka was the losing pitcher, his third loss of the 2016 campaign. He now has a win/loss record of 1-3.
Weather permitting, Lackawanna returns to the field on Tuesday when they host Valley Forge Military College in a Region XIX DII twin bill. Start time for the first game is 2:00 PM.
