Lackawanna has Six Commit to NCAA Baseball Programs

When Chris Pensak took over as the Lackawanna College baseball coach, he declared that one of his goals would be to have his two-year players continue their baseball careers at four-year institutions. This season, he was especially successful in meeting that goal. All six of the team's sophomores are moving on to either a NCAA Division I or Division II institution.

Eric Hink and Jon Wilson will both be attending Niagara University, a NCAA Division I school and a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Hink, a 2008 graduate of Souderton HS, Souderton, Pennsylvania, was both the team's MVP and the Region's Player of the Year. Wilson, a graduate of Berwick High School, Berwick, Pennsylvania, was a two year starter at shortstop for Lackawanna. He also pitched for the Falcons. As a pitcher, he was credited with the win in the Region XIX championship game. Off the field, Wilson was awarded the 2010 Academic award for the male student-athlete who demonstrated educational excellence while participating in a sport.

Rob Lessig and Louis Mantione have both committed to West Chester University, a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Lessig , a graduate of Warwick High School, Lititz, Pennsylvania, was a starting outfielder for the Falcons, sharing time between center and right field. During the 2009 season, he batted .333 with 3 home runs and 16 runs batted in. Mantione, a graduate of Carbondale Area, Carbondale, Pennsylvania, was the team's number one reliever and a spot starter. He finished the season with 4 wins without a loss, struck out 19 while only issuing 6 walks, and compiled a respectable 3.300 earned run average.

Cory Fassett will also be enrolling in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference school when he enters Lock Haven University this autumn. Fassett , a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, started for the Falcons at second base. He batted .250 with 2 home runs and 19 runs batted in. His two homers came in the Region XIX championship game and were instrumental to the Falcon's victory in that contest. In the NJCAA Northeast District final, He finished his Lackawanna College career stroking four hits in four at bats.

Matt Accardi has decided to further his education at Slippery Rock University, another member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Accardi, a graduate of Delaware Valley High School, Milford, Pennsylvania, was the starting catcher for the Falcons during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He ended this season with a .377 batting average, while driving in 51 runs. Those 51 RBIs ranked him second in Region XIX in that statistical category. His 10 home runs were third best in Region. Accardi was one of the five Lackawanna College players named to the All Region XIX First Team
