Lackawanna Beats Sussex CC in Key Region XIX Matchup
Lackawanna College beat Sussex CC by a score of 11-8 in a Thursday afternoon contest to improve their Region XIX win/loss record to 9-3 and their overall record to 32-10. The unusual weekday Region XIX game was caused by the need to reschedule a rained out contest from April 16th before the end of the Region's regular season. The win leaves Lackawanna in control of their destiny. A doubleheader sweep this Saturday against Raritan Valley allows the Falcons to claim a first place seed and a quarter final round bye in Region XIX's baseball tournament.
Eric Hink sparked the Lackawanna victory with a 4 for 4 day that included 2 doubles, a home run and 2 RBIs. Hink also scored two runs. Matt Frei and Sam Parente contributed to the win with first inning home runs, a three run homer for Frei and two run blast for Parente. Frei., who leads the team in home runs, now has 15 for the season. Parente's homer was his 9th this year.
Evan Robaczewski claimed the win in relief improving his win/loss record to 4-0. Louis Mantione was credited a save, his second of the year.
Lackawanna next takes the field in Saturday's Region XIX doubleheader against Raritan Valley CC. Saturday's twin bill starts at 12 noon and will be played at County Field, Moscow, PA.
